A fun activity we did today that ties in with dramatic play, along with working on
fine motor, problem solving, and memory skills, was our eggstravaganza (egg painting and hiding)! Materials:
-Craft eggs (not real ones, $1.98 for a dozen at Wal-mart; very light like a wooden stryrofoam material)
-Finger paint
-Paint brushes
-Glitter
-Easter baskets (I got the mini ones that were $.98 a piece)
-Fun Princess CD for background music

The girls painted the eggs before rest time, and then we let them dry during Cici's nap and Eva's quiet time.
When the girls were finished with rest time, we took turns hiding the eggs. I was first. The girls went upstairs while I hid the eggs in the living room. Then they came down and tried to find them with their mini baskets. We did this taking turns being the Easter bunny (ears and all) for about an hour. The cutest thing was watching and hearing Cici run around downstairs hiding eggs:). I thought for sure she would hide them in the spots that Eva and I hid them in, but she came up with some original hiding places and wouldn't give them away as we were looking. Eva enjoyed pointing them out to us as we walked around the house:)
This dramatic play scene worked on a variety of skills. Creativity and problem solving were at play, along with developing fine motor skills with painting and sprinkling glitter on the eggs, and the girls had to recall where they hid the eggs. We worked with eight eggs at a time, and there would always be one or two that I couldn't find and that the girls couldn't remember where they were hidden. Once we found them, they would have an ah-ha moment and it got easier locating the eggs. I think now they will be ready for the real deal!
